“I wanted to play the piano and make music. So, I took music lessons.” Cédric, 30 years old, has a classic story of a music enthusiast. Since then, his love has progressed. A neighboring sailor in Hérault who sang, friends in high school sharing the same passion, the need to write and the desire to try everything led him to strum the strings of a guitar. The details add up and a musical alchemy guides Cédric to make music his profession. He perfected his skills at the University of Montpellier with studies in musicology. He discovered the history of music and music theory. An almost ordinary story with hardly any obstacles. The hardest part then begins. A solitary adventure. He carries his keyboard around Montpellier’s pubs. The pleasure of the stage comes. The audience becomes receptive. And increasingly so as his personal compositions replace the covers.
His style: French chanson. It’s very vague. Less vague when you see Cédric’s eyes light up seeing the photos of Léo Ferré, Jacques Brel, and Georges Brassens in the offices of Nice-Premium. If you add his particular affection for Bénabar or the fact of having been the opening act for Renan Luce and Aldebert, you can perfectly identify Cédric’s style. “I like to tell stories in a unique way.” His stories, he unfolds them. From anecdotes of everyday life sung with humor, messages are conveyed about our daily routines. The situations are amusing and the chosen words are fitting. He always walks around with his little notebook and takes notes.
His look and sensitivity give his songs a natural affability. False naivety and true simplicity. Just like how he manages his career. A MySpace site and lots of traveling. “I really like traveling alone by train and discovering new cities, new stages, and new audiences. I really enjoy meeting artists from other cities and sharing this passion. This often allows us to exchange addresses. I find them places to play in Montpellier and they do the same for me.” Word of mouth and clicks are effective. Today, he fills all the stages in Montpellier and hopes to conquer other cities.
The album is titled “A Cat’s Life”. To be discovered delicately, like the agile feline. And to be seen on stage with his guitar, his keyboard, his ukulele, and other unusual instruments.
