Cédric Roussel is an LREM deputy for the 3rd constituency of Alpes-Maritimes, since June 18, 2017.

After two years in office, the young deputy is proposing his candidacy for the Mayor of Nice. The deputy from the Côte d’Azur tells us more about this decision.

“We need to keep this freshness…” confides Cédric Roussel. Having arrived in Nice at the age of 13 and originally from Brest, Cédric Roussel is now 47 years old. Recently entering politics two years ago, this father and politician dreams of novelty for the capital of the Côte d’Azur. “I am a young deputy from civil society as I was previously a wealth management advisor on my own, so an artisan and entrepreneur within Italian and French banking groups.” The former entrepreneur spent his youth and built his life in Nice, “a city I know very well and love just as any Niçois knows and loves their city”. Today, the LREM candidate wants to pursue a citizen-focused politics at a time when “the democratic urgency is substantial.”

What motivates your candidacy?

“The approach stems from the fact that today I am an elected member of La République En Marche, and I am convinced that its values must be represented and highlighted for the municipal election. It is primarily a project based on values common to others who share the same political sensitivities as LREM. I am keen for this project to exist in Nice, which is why I am a candidate, to support this project which aims to open up and be an appeal to many engaged citizens I have met over the past two years. The experience of the national debate was an accelerator of experience, and it convinced me that we must continue with this method that embodies the daily politics of the French and Niçois in particular.”

Why abandon your deputy mandate after only 2 years?

“This candidacy is, above all, about assuming my role as a political leader. It is a democratic urgency that shows an alternative to the way politics is done, which, if we consider the political history of Alpes-Maritimes, has been the same for almost a century. I believe we must retain freshness. Not necessarily being young, but fresh in the mandate. We must know how to make room and know how to pass on, and I fully subscribe to this role. In any case, I have a clear vision of what I want for this city.”

Precisely, what are your ambitions for the city of Nice and its residents?

“They are part of a desire to change the way politics is conducted in Nice and to involve the citizens themselves in the management of their city. An update can be made. I see a need, I believe, for a new way of doing things: namely, politics with them and for them. The residents of Nice have ideas, many ideas, so I wish to make our city more accessible, more ecological, and more attractive.”
