While many questions remain unanswered regarding the modalities of the school reopening announced for May 11th, the Nice deputy Cédric Roussel (LRM) proposes, along with twenty other majority deputies, to include sports among the tools for a gradual resumption of classes in elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools.
The twenty-one deputies wrote to Jean-Michel BLANQUER and Roxana MARCINEANU to propose a new class organization inspired by the German model.
What is the recommended approach?
By splitting classes, part of the students could participate in courses on fundamental knowledge while the other part could engage in physical and sports activities. These activities would be supervised, in compliance with current health regulations, by local sports club and association educators and funded by a special allocation from the State.
According to the elected officials behind the initiative: “This initiative will both ensure a safer, more gradual deconfinement for students and reinvigorate the amateur sports sector severely affected by the Covid-19 crisis.”
Cédric Roussel explains the approach: “This innovative resumption of classes would be carried out locally, on a voluntary basis, and in partnership with the State, teachers, and local authorities. This proposal is innovative in that it strengthens the role of sports in schools and directly supports amateur clubs, whose revenues have dropped due to the health crisis.”
