The National Frequency Agency (ANFR) publishes the latest figures from its monthly observatory on the deployment of 2G/3G and 4G networks. Discover the map of mobile phone relay antennas near you.
National Level
As of March 1, 2015, 19,898 sites are authorized, of which 16,303 are operational, for very high-speed mobile (4G) across all operators.
The authorizations for 4G sites granted during the month of February were noticeably more numerous than in previous months. The total number of authorized 4G sites increased by 5.4% compared to January.
In France, three frequency bands provide 4G service:
– The 800 MHz band
– The 1,800 MHz band
– The 2.6 GHz band
10,286 sites are authorized for 4G in the 800 MHz band (+2.9% over one month).
6,956 sites are authorized for 4G in the 1,800 MHz band (+0.7% over one month).
13,712 sites are authorized for 4G in the 2.6 GHz band (+11.1% over one month).
In the 2.6 GHz band, the operator Free Mobile obtained 1,544 new authorizations, an increase of 36.1% compared to its authorized sites as of February 1. It now holds the highest number of authorizations in this band. Orange, on the other hand, has the highest number of operational sites in this band.
The assessment of operational 4G sites in metropolitan areas is as follows:
1. Orange (7,171 sites)
2. Bouygues Telecom (6,541 sites)
3. Numericable-SFR (3,031 sites)
4. Free Mobile (2,784 sites)
In Overseas, OPT NC continues deploying its 4G network in New Caledonia, particularly by authorizing 31 new sites in the 800 MHz band.
In 3G, the total number of site authorizations stands at 40,136, of which 1,786 concern Overseas.
In 2G, 40,596 sites are authorized across the entire territory, including 2,433 in Overseas.
Departmental Level
The Agency also publishes observatory figures by department. They provide an account of the evolution of mobile network deployments, notably 4G, in different territories. These figures are available in map form at www.cartoradio.fr (tab “Observatory”).
