The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, awarded several ranks to 16 civil security reservists attached to the Municipal Civil Security Reserve established in 2010. Their particularity: they are all volunteers.
“The value of a man lies in his ability to give and not in his ability to receive.” The first magistrate of Nice made it a point to quote Albert Einstein to describe their selflessness. The ceremony was accompanied by a fanfare from the municipal guard of Nice. There was the traditional Marseillaise and also Robert Bruce’s soldier’s march.
A tribute emphasized
The mayor did not hesitate to praise this body. “Your commitment, servants of the Municipal Civil Security Reserve, over the year has been indispensable. It has been difficult for you since the creation in 2010.” He is not alone. The government has also recognized the importance of civil security. “It has admitted that you can be considered as a major body in the field of civil security alongside other internal security forces,” specifies Christian Estrosi.
They actively participated during the health crisis. They provided assistance on more than 600 measures for 4,500 hours. For example, “the COVID screening missions and the distribution of masks were a success. Health security was ensured during major events such as the large vaccination campaign,” details the mayor of Nice.
Particular rewards
After the awarding of ranks, the 16 reservists are composed of a Commander, three Chief Sergeants, three First Class trainees, four First Class Corporals, and five Corporals. This body was already reorganized four years ago. “On July 12, 2017, the entire municipal civil security reserve was decorated with the gold medal for acts of courage and bravery,” says Christian Estrosi.
These ranks aim to “mark the different stages of their commitment.” They all wear a shoulder cord on the left shoulder. Originally worn by the military, the shoulder cord is given to those who have accomplished acts of war. The reservists will wear it only during their service.
