Cessole District: speed cameras, buses, developments… Christian Estrosi provides an update

Latest News

**The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis presented this Tuesday, August 5, during a visit to the Cessole district site, its investments for Place Goiran. The visit covered four points, let’s recap.**

Following an accident that occurred yesterday, in which a mother and her child in a stroller were hit by a car around 3:00 PM on [Boulevard Cessole](https://www.nicepremium.fr/actualite/la-place-de-l-horloge-de-cessole-fermee-a-cause-de-nombreuses-plaintes31851/), the municipality aims to strengthen safety in the area. *”For the past four years, we have had a dozen authorizations to install radars from the Ministry of the Interior. My problem is not purchasing radars but having them granted by the national center that issues these permits. It took three years to get a construction radar on the Promenade des Anglais,”* assures **Christian Estrosi**.

Three other detection devices are expected by the metropolis. The strategic points identified as accident-prone, according to the Mayor of Nice, are being studied. The lower part of the house of the environment is one of the areas being explored by the city of Nice. The municipality plans to slow down traffic at the end of August, without yet confirming what will be implemented. *”At the beginning of September, I will announce definitive measures,”* confirms **the chief magistrate.**

**Slowing down traffic through control**

This morning, the mayor visited the district to question residents and understand the security and planning issues. *”We see too many and too high speeds. Some residents are satisfied with the qualitative planning, others believe there are numerous speed excesses,”* he comments. The city is taking measures to monitor speeds, with **Rabah Souchi**, deputy director of the municipal police, overseeing speed and noise operations twice a week. At the end of August, planning work will be carried out in the lower part of Boulevard Cessole. *”Definitive and structural alterations will ensure compliance with the 30 km/h zones,”* explains Christian Estrosi.

**The management of radars questioned by the city hall**

The waiting time for the delivery of [radars](https://www.nicepremium.fr/actualite/securite-routiere-le-nouveau-radar-installe-sur-la-promenade-des-anglais-suscite-des-reactions/) is one of the aspects he considers as *”a state scandal,”* albeit not the fault of the prefect, himself constrained. The problem is global, according to **the mayor**, governments have lacked political will regarding road safety. *”You can say 200 times, it’s limited to 30 km/h, if you don’t have the coercive means to enforce and apply it, it doesn’t work,”* he assures.

The chief magistrate would like to decentralize the management to allow the installation of radars based on areas to be secured. *”The **Urban Surveillance Center (CSU)** will be able to manage almost the entire traffic cycle of the metropolis. Now, we must rely on our data for the CSU to decide its location,”* says the Horizon leader.

**More parking spaces and a better-designed garden**

At **[Place Goiran](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Pl.+du+G%C3%A9n%C3%A9ral+Goiran,+06100+Nice/)**, the parking lot will be enhanced with an additional ten paid parking spaces available in the morning to be operational in the afternoon. To do so, expanding the area is necessary. The new parking spaces are located behind the parking fence, bringing the total to 20 spaces. Deputy for Urban Agriculture, **Catherine Moreaux**, suggested converting the unused park shed into a shared garden for local families.

As for the garden on the same square, *”we want the children’s garden, whose upper part, after reviewing it with my **director of green spaces**, to be somewhat isolated. People will be able to find tranquility in these spaces,”* details Christian Estrosi.

**An update on high-level service buses**

Presented *”like a tram at your doorstep,”* according to the city, the **high-level service buses** of lines 8 + and 12 + were [inaugurated on October 24, 2024](https://www.nicepremium.fr/actualite/inauguration-du-bhns-a-nice-vers-une-mobilite-durable/). The buses depart from Place Goiran, serving Boulevards Cessole, Gambetta, the Promenade des Anglais, the Paillon, and stopping at the Palais des Expositions. According to city figures, there are fourteen buses in the transport offer accommodating an average of 18,000 travelers per day. The city’s goal is to achieve a [decarbonized fleet](https://www.nicepremium.fr/actualite/les-nouvelles-rames-allongees-de-la-ligne-1-du-tramway-debarqueront-a-la-rentree/) by the end of 2025. **238 vehicles** are included in the metropolis’s project with an energy mix comprising 52% electric vehicles and 48% natural gas vehicles (GNV).
