“Following Michel Vauzelle’s press conference, held yesterday in Nice, Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, wishes to provide the following response” (see the box).
Christian Estrosi’s spirited reaction highlights that beyond the mentioned episode, the relationships between the strong men of the two entities (City-Metropolis and Region) are a mix of opposing political affiliations (PS and UMP), tense personal relations (Michel Vauzelle’s foil and Christian Estrosi’s saber), and identification with the territory (Nice and Marseille).
The pre-election period doesn’t help, and we should expect further clashes with exchanges of accusations and… we hope we can stop there, limiting it to skirmishes. Each playing their part as they should, without falling into the demagogy of sheer confrontation.
The Wild West of double, triple… and quintuple language from the one who raises their voice the most, no thank you!
In politics, what is most necessary is intellectual honesty and respect for the voter.
