Everything seems complex, unpredictable, or paradoxical. Work, that guiding value on which one could once structure a life, is dwindling. How do we manage our lives, our families? Can we plan for the long term? The crisis is everywhere; it’s not just financial and economic. It begins with our values. How do we move beyond values of “money” or “consumption” alone? What should social bonds be based on? How can we move beyond the spectacle of politics? Can businesses become more civic-minded?
And what if we are facing a change in era? At a time when the planet communicates via mobile devices; when the Internet is pervasive, we need to think differentlyโฆ Instead of lamenting, letโs face the challenge. What if our approaches, our ways of reasoning, are no longer in tune? We are transitioning from a local environment where everything could be anticipated to a global space where constant adaptability is essential. Don’t our lives still rely on trivial beliefs, like in the times when thought, having no solid foundation to operate on, concocted trivial benchmarks or evenโฆ stories. For lack of better options!
Every month, Nice Premium has invited Professor Andrรฉ Giordan, a long-established resident of Nice and director of the Laboratory of Didactics and Epistemology of Science in Geneva, to challenge our neurons, taking current events as a starting point. A biologist and epistemologist, he is internationally renowned for his work on learning and complexity. He will offer us the opportunity to look beyond the obvious and the apparent. He will attempt to guide us in rethinking our ways of thinking, living, and working!
