The two ministerial orders published on July 1, 2015, offer new perspectives in the regulation of wolves.
Marie de Péone-Valberg, Deputy of the Haut-pays niçois and First Vice-President of the Departmental Council, Charles-Ange Ginesy is the most qualified to assess the impact: “these advances gradually resolve the difficulties of farmers facing the wolf, which increasingly threatens agropastoralism and tourism”.
As a deep expert on this issue, his response goes to the heart of the matter: “I have repeatedly, in consultation with professional representatives, called on the concerned ministers to demand effective and lasting actions in the field to drive this predator away from human activities. The increase in the number of authorized culls will improve the situation provided that they are actually carried out”.
To reach a conclusion that gives meaning to this Ministry’s decision after so much controversy and political exploitation: “For this, I recommend, under State control, that this plan be implemented by hunters, who are both penalized by wolf attacks on wildlife and are the only ones well acquainted with and able to regulate this species while keeping in mind the interests of nature and biodiversity”.
