Don’t they say the best defense is a good offense?
After an electoral result that was mixed and the renewed ambitions of his rival, Eric Ciotti, bolstered by his reelection to the national assembly, it is no secret that he covets the mayor’s office in Nice. In fact, even though he doesn’t say it outright, he lets his followers do so, and Christian Estrosi’s response didn’t take long, even though it surprised some with its anticipation of the electoral calendar (2026).
If Eric Ciotti thought he would be up against one of the successors managed by Christian Estrosi, who would step aside after three terms (18 years in total), and benefit from a possible/probable de facto alliance with the RN and its voters (a repeat of the model put in place during the legislative elections), it will not be the case, unfortunately for him. Instead, he will have to face Christian Estrosi himself, which changes the game and makes the endeavor more difficult.
“My ambition is Nice. The roadmap for 2026 is clear and stems from the 2020 election. We will do what we were mandated to do, but we must also look even further, towards Nice 2032.” declared the mayor of Nice during the traditional friendly meeting of the association “Les Amis du maire” which took place this Thursday in the gardens of the Arènes de Cimiez before a thousand attendees.

During this event, he spoke on the national political situation, confirming that he is no longer aspiring to a national role (even if he will not “give up” on having influence in the debate), but he mainly emphasized the “centrality of the municipality” on the political chessboard.
Mentioning an organization of public policies based on the principle of subsidiarity, he advocates for a new law on decentralization that should grant additional responsibilities (and powers to carry them out in terms of administration, health, and security).
