The national day of tribute to the victims of terrorism took place this Thursday. Officials gathered at Castle Hill for the occasion.
The approach was solemn. The tone was serious. Like Christian Estrosi, all eyes were on remembering people who were victims of terrorism. The national day of tribute to the victims of terrorism took place throughout France. On a national level, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, traveled to Dammartin-en-Goรซle to meet the printer taken hostage by the Kouachi brothers after the attack on Charlie Hebdo in 2015.
In the Alpes-Maritimes, the mayor of the city of Nice, Christian Estrosi, and the prefect, Bernard Gonzalez, gathered at Castle Hill, in front of the memorial dedicated to the victims of terrorism. โI want to speak of memory, to understand but also to fight, and I want to speak of gratitude. Nice will be a living memorial, because we forget nothing and we always act,โ declared Christian Estrosi. Hit again last October following the attacks perpetrated at the Notre-Dame basilica, the city of Nice shows solidarity.
A message of hope
This duty of remembrance is obviously very important, as emphasized by Bernard Gonzalez. โThese victims are our neighbors, our friends, our relatives, our children,โ explains the prefect. โWe are all targeted, but solidarity is our strength. Our efforts are focused on the fight against terrorism.โ Before participating in the traditional laying of a wreath, the officials also wanted to thank the law enforcement agencies and, more generally, all those who help the population.
Christian Estrosi also wanted to deliver a message of hope for the future: โLife always wins against the barbarians. It never started as a winner, and it has always won.โ The officials were able to speak with families affected by the attacks at the Basilica, as well as at the Promenade des Anglais in 2016. The prefect, Bernard Gonzalez, concluded the ceremony with the hope โof meeting here in a year, without having to honor more names on the too-long list of victims of terrorism.โ
