On Wednesday, September 14, a conference on energy sobriety was held by the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. Here’s a recap of some of the points discussed.

In response to rising energy prices and an uncertain outlook for the coming winter, Christian Estrosi announced an energy sobriety plan. This plan, developed in consultation with the mayors of the Metropolis and economic stakeholders, aims to provide comprehensive and coordinated solutions to all short, medium, and long-term challenges.

Christian Estrosi thus announced several measures as part of the Metropolis’s energy strategy, including:

  • Reducing consumption on the public lighting network by, among other measures, turning off museum façades and decorative lighting in the City and the Metropolis between 11 PM and 5 AM, and reducing non-essential road equipment during the same hours.
  • Developing urban thermal networks throughout the Metropolis.
  • Developing solar photovoltaic energy to increase by 110 GWh per year by 2026, by providing public surfaces and buildings to private project developers.
  • Revisiting the subject of hydroelectricity.
  • Strengthening energy renovation of buildings and homes by removing the cap on the €4,000 aid for energy audit financing. Increasing the aid to €6,000 for replacing thermal boilers with heat pumps. Additionally, launching a support program for building energy renovations funded with €1 million per year.
  • Demolishing two energy-inefficient buildings by 2025 with the TNN and Acropolis.

Furthermore, he announced the unveiling of a transition barometer at the end of September, which will allow regular monitoring of all progress in terms of consumption reduction and renewable energy production.
