Rรฉdoine Faรฏd is a French robber of Algerian origin, born on May 10, 1972, in Creil in the Oise. He is considered one of the pioneers of the “inner-city underworld.” As he aged, he claimed to have moved from “heists” to armored van attacks.
Arrested several times, sentenced to 18 years in prison for robberies, and released in 2009, he is once again suspected in an armed attack during which a municipal police officer was killed, and was arrested in June 2012.
He escaped from the Sequedin prison (Nord) with the help of explosives and after taking 4 people hostage on the morning of April 13. A European arrest warrant was issued the same day.
Following this incident, UMP deputies from the Alpes-Maritimes, Christian Estrosi and Eric Ciotti, demanded explanations from Justice Minister Christiane Taubira on Saturday after Redoine Faรฏd’s escape with explosives from the Sequedin prison (Nord).
“I do not understand how a dangerous criminal sentenced to heavy sentences, involved in a shooting that cost the life of a young municipal police officer in Villiers-sur-Marne in May 2010, could acquire explosives to escape from a relatively new detention center intended to house prisoners deemed dangerous,” wrote Mr. Estrosi in a statement.
“I solemnly ask Ms. Taubira to fully clarify what led to this unacceptable situation, particularly the reasons why there were never any general searches of this facility even though there had already been difficulties repeatedly reported by trade unions,” he continued.
Deputy Eric Ciotti, on the other hand, stated on Twitter that Christiane Taubira should “explain the absence of searches in the visiting room.”
Faced with “the emotion caused by the escape from the Sequedin prison, of the repeat offender Redoine Faรฏd involved in the death of Aurรฉlie Fouquet in May 2010,” the deputy-mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, announced that he is taking the initiative to organize a “white march.” It will take place this Monday at 11:45 in Nice. The demonstration will start from the Monument of May 8, 1945, heading towards the War Memorial.
