Christian Estrosi brings together representatives of the Russian and Ukrainian communities to show that they are “together against this conflict”

Invited to the France Bleu Azur studio this Tuesday morning, Christian Estrosi was asked about the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. He notably spoke about the solidarity expressed throughout the Nice Cรดte d’Azur metropolitan area and the actions implemented.

“After these ten days of conflict, we must be aware that the 21st-century world will no longer be that which we have known over the past decades,” he began by announcing, before going on to state that he would bring together representatives of the Russian and Ukrainian communities.

Indeed, there is a large Russian and Ukrainian community present in the city of Nice, a community for which Christian Estrosi declared he “has respect.”

“I am bringing together representatives of the two communities at city hall this Tuesday morning, who wish to fraternize and show that they stand together in this conflict. I do not want this conflict to be transposed here and for tensions and pressures to rise while these people want to talk and live together. They are hostile to this conflict, and it is also my role to act as a peacemaker in the Nice and Cรดte d’Azur area,” he thus declared on the local radio station.

The mayor of Nice also wanted to commend the “extraordinary” demonstrations of solidarity from the people of Nice, between those who declare they can host refugees and those who make donations.

Furthermore, he reminded that the metropolitan area has opened a phone line (04 97 13 59 00) and an email address (soutienukraine@nicecotedazur.org) through which two actions are coordinated. The first of these actions is to coordinate the potential reception of refugees, both in private homes and those the metropolis itself can accommodate. The second action is an appeal for donations of medication, a point on which the official insisted, saying that it’s “what they really need.”

Finally, when questioned about the city’s capacity to accommodate refugees, he responded that the city of Nice could “naturally” do so. “It is a humanitarian duty, it is a duty of solidarity,” he concluded.
