Christian Estrosi inaugurated the demolition of the bus station. This event marks the beginning of the first phase of the work, which will last a month and a half. The second phase is scheduled for June 2011. The destruction of the bus station is part of the green corridor project, expected to be completed by September 2013.

The bus station on Boulevard Jean Jaurรจs is now closed. Yesterday, Christian Estrosi launched the demolition work for the northern part of the station. “The demolition of the northern part of the station begins today and will last a month and a half. The other part should be demolished between June and September next year,” explained the mayor of Nice. The destruction of the bus station is part of the green corridor project initiated by the mayor of Nice. “This green corridor will cover twelve hectares of green spaces in the heart of the city. It will stretch from the Nice theater to the Albert I garden,” mentioned the elected official from Nice. A “green frame” project that represents two years of work.

Provisional stops have been set up during the works

Since January 5th and the permanent closure of the station, certain lines’ stops and termini have been modified. Regular users of urban, departmental, or regional lines have had to adapt. Even though the mayor of Nice praised “the effectiveness of the communication campaign following the changes in the location of stops and termini,” some travelers are still a bit lost. One can still hear a few asking where the stop for this or that line is. It’s a habit they’ll have to get used to. Ultimately, the bus station will be replaced by two multimodal hubs. One in Saint Augustin, the other in Saint Jean d’Angรฉly.

The Shell parking lot demolished

The parking lot adjacent to what was the bus station will also be demolished. All Shell parking subscribers will be relocated to other nearby parking lots: “We have agreed with Benoรฎt Kandel, my first deputy and president of SEMIACS, to relocate the current subscribers to nearby parking lots,” shared Christian Estrosi. Similarly, he explained that a new parking lot will be constructed after the works, “the Sulzer underground parking will offer more spaces to drivers. No less than 450 parking spaces will be provided once the works are completed!”

In conclusion, the Nice official stated that “the entire project aims to create a space that will enhance the neighborhood’s attractiveness as well as economic and social cohesion. It will add value to the commercial activities that will develop!” The green corridor is expected to be completed by September 2013.
