In this iconic and restored place that is the Franciscan church (a 13th-century building that has resurfaced after 5 years of work and will become a venue for cultural activities), the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, and the president of the Region, Renaud Muselier, conveyed their wishes to the many residents of Nice gathered in the presence of the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes and other institutional figures.
The full Nice nomenclature was also present, and infiltrating the circle of honored guests led to some exercises in stealth and agility to get past the cordon surrounding them.
The “ordinary people” – better positioned in relation to the tables with galettes – took their revenge at the end of the speeches by storming them.
In a somewhat crowded scenario, Kremlin-style, the regional councilors, mayors of the Metropolis, and Nice municipal councilors were lined up behind the parliamentarians (a special note for the “republican” presence of LREM deputy Cédric Roussel, while Eric Ciotti… well, let’s not overdo it).
Bound by the obligation of reserve (though the projected images were cleverly used to showcase more recent achievements) due to the upcoming municipal elections in March, Christian Estrosi, the candidate who is not yet a candidate but who everyone believes will be, played on words: “I want to tell the people of Nice that I intend to be their mayor 100% until the end of the mandate they entrusted to me.”
To be honest, we suspected this, and then again 10 weeks of waiting is a fairly short time before signing on for another 6 years!
The desire, in any case, is not lacking: “It is together, united, that we will be able to meet the challenges of this new decade and make our territory shine.”
To conclude, Renaud Muselier, president of the Region, could not miss the opportunity to deliver his eloquent speech, in which he was full of praise for his friend and ally: “Together we have the privilege of serving an exceptional Region and city that make the South shine worldwide. Thank you for making Nice ever more beautiful.”
