Christian Estrosi held a council on ecological transition. Many future projects were discussed and objectives set.
“Nice, the green metropolis of the Mediterranean”, this is how Christian Estrosi describes his city. Today, the health crisis is extremely concerning, as is the future of the planet. The mayor of Nice understands the importance of the ecological challenge. To preserve the environment as much as possible, he sets high objectives and significant measures. “We cannot achieve an ecological transition without unity”
First of all, households must be remodeled. Indeed, each person produces on average 10 tons of CO2 per year. “A poorly insulated housing emits more than 80kg/m2 of CO2 per year compared to 5 for an insulated housing”. The goal of this initiative is to significantly reduce each individual’s environmental impact. For this, 100 million euros are unlocked for the renovation of public buildings and 61 million euros for the renovation of 2,000 Côte d’Azur Habitat homes. With this initiative, 64,000 tons of carbon will be avoided each year.
I wish to create a complete, dynamic, and protective “metropolitan ecosystem” generating virtuous loops: 0 plastic, decarbonized energies, water management, territorial food project serving the residents. A positive ecology, arising from the territories. pic.twitter.com/pBF6uekNIr

A green traffic
Nice is a city with significant traffic. To limit air pollution, Christian Estrosi wants to implement several measures. First, heavy trucks will no longer be allowed on the Promenade des Anglais. They account for 44% of pollutant emissions. To enforce this, the mayor insists on the need to “establish free bypassing of Nice”. Another key traffic point is the generalization of 30km/h speed limits in the city center. Several traffic lights will also be removed. Long-term electric bicycle rentals will be introduced to limit car usage. With all these measures, Christian Estrosi aims for Nice to be even more committed to an ecological approach.
