Christian Estrosi unveils his plans for Le Ray

Latest News

Yesterday, we published the results of the consultation regarding the Ray Stadium site. Following this, the candidate Christian Estrosi presented his project for the future of a site that was the subject of various desires.

ray_estrosi.jpg Ultimately, common sense and recognition of citizens’ opinions prevailed: The overall proposal includes developments (a multi-sports hall, nursery, school, parking, shops, and housing) that will be integrated into a new green corridor (The Promenade du Ray) with a forest leisure area, like a treetop adventure course, which will contribute both to the dynamism of the neighborhood and its landscape quality.

Therefore, a sports complex will be established with a large playing field for football and will be complemented by a multi-sports hall (Basketball, Handball, and indoor sports) which will include a DOJO intended for all clubs of Judo, Karate, Taekwondo*. The tennis courts will also be preserved.

The associations (OGC Nice Fencing, the Nice Billiard Club, and the Mediterranean Tennis Club), currently housed in the stadium, will, of course, be relocated within the sports complex.

Other changes will also be implemented to meet daily needs: The extension of the nursery “Lโ€™Eau Vive” and the Ray-Gorbella school, underground parking, and a park-and-ride facility in addition to that of Rouret and small housing units, at most R+3, at the foot of which there will be local shops and public services.

Finally, to ensure that this neighborhood is attractive for the entire city and that it brings life to the neighborhood, also responding to this strong demand for spaces expressed by the population, the project is to create a green corridor called the Promenade du Ray, which will be tree-lined so as to become a leisure park.

This proposal is likely to find favor with local residents and merchants. And, surprisingly, it should not displease the socialist opposition either, as it is close to the one presented by Patrick Allemand named: The Ray Family Plain, which included the large game area and tennis courts; a 500-space underground parking lot, a dojo for martial arts, and rooms dedicated to fencing, billiards, and table tennis; and finally, a large family leisure park.

Has Nice’s politics entered a period of compromise between the majority and the opposition?
