The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, visited the Liautaud Tunnel, where standardization work is currently being carried out. The project is estimated at 28 million euros.
Starting in December, the standardization work on the Liautaud Tunnel continues overnight from 9:30 PM to 6:00 AM, when traffic is prohibited. During his visit, Christian Estrosi was able to witness the progress of this operation. The main focuses of this project are the renewal of equipment, the creation of 10 emergency exits, and fire-resistant measures for the structure. The mayor of Nice emphasized the importance of carrying out this work: โOur citizens must understand that safety comes first. This project is necessary in our eyes.โ Approximately 18,000 vehicles use this route daily, with the tunnel following the path of the Paillon. The tunnel serves the Port, Acropolis, and Vauban districts. There is also direct access to the Paillon la Trinitรฉ route and the A8 highway.
A comprehensive project costing 81 million euros
The standardization work for the Liautaud Tunnel costs 28 million euros, but this project is part of a more comprehensive plan. The metropolitan services will then need to renovate the Malraux Tunnel and the Cap Estel Tunnel. โThis will allow us to improve the safety and comfort of users, as well as traffic flow while adhering to the safety standards required by the State,โ explains Christian Estrosi. The standardization of these three tunnels requires a total investment of 81 million euros, according to forecast figures. โThis will not impact other planned investments as we had included this expense in our forecast budget,โ specifies the mayor of Nice. According to a schedule agreed upon with the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes, Bernard Gonzalez, the standardization work on the Liautaud Tunnel should be completed by mid-2022. Temporary traffic constraints are expected on this road, which is particularly used by the residents of Nice.
