The theme chosen for the Christmas festivities in Nice is Baroque. For one month, from November 30, 2013, to January 1, 2014, the Christmas village will offer the public a wide range of gift ideas and treats in around sixty chalets.

noel-nice.jpg To maintain the line of the Promenade du Paillon, the village is kept in the northern part of Place Masséna. This year marks the 60th anniversary of our city’s twinning with Nuremberg, and Germany will be particularly honored during these end-of-year festivities, with a stand showcasing its specialties, including Nuremberg gingerbread and grilled sausages.

The ice rink and Ferris wheel will allow for skating and soaring into the sky, two features that enjoy great success every year. The water mirrors will be the stage for a sound and light show on December 28. A forest of 200 trees, 136 luminous sculptures, and other motifs will delight both young and old.

During the school holidays from December 22 to January 1, Place Garibaldi will host daily theater performances, puppets, and magic. No district will be forgotten: Christmas in Nice West, then on December 14 for Saint Lucy’s Day a concert at the Anglican Church, Christmas in Nice North, at Square Daudet with Carnacrèche, the living nativity scene at Place Rossetti from December 22 to 26, Les Moulins on December 19, three concerts at the opera. The Christmas tree market at the Centenary monument, Gare du Sud, and Square Goiran from December 7 to 24. A spectacle of lights exalting the flamboyant Baroque, a continuation of Christmas 2012.

Colorful gift packages, light cylinders, multicolored flames, Christmas arches, a giant ball at Place Garibaldi, the lighting of the palm trees on the Promenade, the pines in Albert 1 Garden, and, new this year, the Promenade pergolas in red, pink, and purple. The activities will spread to schools, and let’s not forget our elders, in the retirement homes. Christmas in Nice also includes curtains, braids and luminous chandeliers, 35,000 candy bags, 80 kilos of papillotes, chocolate Santa Claus figures, enough to satisfy the schoolchildren of Nice, the older ones, and of course the many visitors to our city at the end of the year.

The inauguration of the Christmas village will take place on Friday, November 29, 2013, at 6 PM.
