The 7th edition of Cinéalma continues in the tradition of previous editions with a few new features this year. The programming maintains its strong connection to the Mediterranean basin but also opens up to other regions of the world, particularly with a spotlight on Latin America (Elefante Blanco). Given the upheavals in the Arab world, Cinéalma pays tribute to Tunisia this year.
The films showcased illustrate the diversity of Tunisia’s cinematic creativity. The meetings with directors at the end of screenings and during the round table dedicated to the links between revolution, culture, and cinema will offer many opportunities for exchange and enrichment.
From October 12 to 21, the screen at the Juliette Greco hall in Carros will show 29 films, including 12 premieres and 8 unreleased films from 14 countries (Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Israel, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Bosnia, Argentina).
The audience, eagerly awaiting this event, will have the chance to meet with several prestigious guests for discussions and debates (Narjiss Nejjar, Fernando Trueba, Andrea Segre, Ridha Behi, Jilani Saadi, Pippo Mezzapesa…).
This year, Moroccan director Narjiss Nejjar will be the patron of our festival. She will present her film “L’amante du Rif” at the opening, which will captivate us with the beauty of its cinematography, the richness of its script, and the quality of its direction.
Cinematic creation often finds its inspiration in the upheavals that our societies undergo. Many of these themes are reflected in the Cinealma 2012 programming: perspectives on women (L’amante du Rif, Les femmes du bus 678, Militantes, Histoires tunisiennes, Androman…), traces of history (Après la Bataille, Le Repenti, Djeca enfants, Les chants de Mandrin…), cultural differences (Téléphone arabe, Rengaine, La petite Venise, Tabou), the weight of beliefs and religion (Les voisins de dieux, La vierge, les coptes et moi…), family and traditions (Une famille respectable, Derrière la colline), love (Chercher le garçon, Histoires tunisiennes, Dimma Brando), art and culture (L’artiste et son modèle, Winou baba), and the environment (Polluting Paradise).
