Come relax after classes and work with a selection of films, each more beautiful than the last. This week, you can discover “Tales of the Night” by Michel Ocelot, “The Well Digger’s Daughter” by Daniel AUTEUIL, and “Free Men by Ismaรซl” FERROUKHI with screenings for middle schoolers, high schoolers, seniors, and all audiences.
Tales of the Night by Michel Ocelot
Every evening, a girl, a boy, and an old technician meet in a small cinema that seems abandoned but is full of wonders. The three friends invent, draw, dress up… And they play all the stories that come to them on a magical night where anything is possible!
Tales of the Night, the new fairy tale from one shore of the Mediterranean to the other, is the first 3D film by the creator of Kirikou, Azur.
The Well Digger’s Daughter by Daniel AUTEUIL
Patricia meets Jacques. She is eighteen, he is twenty-six. She is pretty, he is a fighter pilot and handsome. A little moonlight does the rest during their second meeting. There will be no third date: Jacques is sent to the front. Patricia will await a child from this encounter…
“The Well Digger’s Daughter carries the same DNA as the successes of Yves Robert, “My Father’s Glory” and “My Mother’s Castle”: simple, beautiful, warm, it flows like the waters of the hills, itโs Pagnol.”
Free Men by Ismaรซl FERROUKHI France 2011
1942, Paris is occupied by the Germans. Younes, a young Algerian immigrant, lives off the black market. Arrested by the police, he agrees to spy at the Paris Mosque. Indeed, the Rector, Si Kaddour Ben Ghabrit, is suspected of issuing false papers to Jews and resistance fighters. Younes befriends the singer Selim Halali and, despite the risks, ends his collaboration with the police to join the fight for freedom.
A beautiful, courageous, and exciting film that brings to light a part of History that has remained in the shadows: the role of Si Kaddour Ben Ghabrit, founder and director of the Paris Mosque (played by Michael Lonsdale) in the protection of Jews during the Second World War.
Moving characters portrayed by Tahar Rahim, Mahmoud Shalaby, and Lubna Azabal, the effective collaboration on the script by historians Benjamin Stora and Pascal Le Pautremat, and the music by Armand Amar.
