Where there’s Wednesday, there’s cinema. Today, we present our selection of films of the week to guide you through the cinemas.

1. Magnificat by Virginie Sauveur

The chancellor of a diocese has to acknowledge the death certificate of a priest. An ordinary situation that becomes extraordinary when she discovers, to her astonishment, that this deceased priest was a woman. Against the wishes of her bishop, she, wanting to bring change to this ecclesiastical world resistant to change, embarks on an investigation. Trying to understand the how and why, this quest for truth intersects with her son’s search for his father. A feature film starring Karin Viard and François Berléand, based on the novel Des femmes en noir by Anne-Isabelle Lacassagne.

2. No Hard Feelings by Gene Stupnisky

In this outrageous comedy, Jennifer Lawrence stars as Maddie. On the brink of losing her childhood home, this carless Uber driver is willing to do anything to solve her financial problems. She then stumbles upon an enticing and completely offbeat job offer. Wealthy parents are looking to help their 19-year-old son Percy break out of his shell before his big departure to college. To do so, they need a young woman to take him on a series of “dates”. The reward: a car. She has the entire summer to take on this challenge that proves to be more complicated than expected.

3. Elemental by Peter Sohn

This new Disney-Pixar movie takes us to the city of Element City, where fire, water, earth, and air live in perfect harmony. A harmony preserved by a golden rule: elements must not mix. There reside Flam, a young adventurous and quick-witted woman with a fiery personality, and Flack, a sentimental and amusing boy who tends to be a follower at heart. An forbidden friendship blossoms between them, challenging their perception of the world they live in.

4. Il Boemo by Petr Vaclav

In this historical biopic, Czech filmmaker revisits the life and career of the forgotten maestro, musician and composer Josef Myslivecek. The talented “Il Boemo” struggles to make a name for himself in libertine 18th-century Venice until he becomes a lover of a woman from the court. This liaison allows him to achieve his dream of composing an opera. His career then takes off.

5. 38°5 quai des Orfèvres by Benjamin Lehrer

This whimsical comedy featuring Didier Bourdon, Caroline Anglade, and Yann Papin takes us to 36 quai des Orfèvres, home to a slightly wacky criminal brigade. A serial killer, nicknamed the Lone Wo(lf)rd, leaves behind bodies at crime scenes that are increasingly enigmatic and bizarre. By leaving Alexandrines in his wake, the killer sows terror and confusion. Clarisse Sterling, an enthusiastic young investigator, is assigned the case under the supervision of the legendary Commissioner Keller. Unmasking the culprit proves to be an impossible mission.
