Ciotti vs Estrosi: I love you, me neither

Latest News

New episode in the “war” for power in Nice and its region: Eric Ciotti addressed an open letter to Christian Estrosi, president of the metropolis, this Thursday.

In solidarity with the “yellow vests”โ€”he received a delegation of firefighters who adhere to the strike movement yesterdayโ€”he asked him to cancel the new metropolitan tax voted in 2018 by the Metropolis council.

The relationship between the two is hard to understand, but when going into battle, any means is fair.

Christian Estrosi’s response is not lacking in subtlety: “Should it be understood, then, that you will never stop attacking the city of Nice and the metropolis?”

It is clear that the argument is merely a pretext for Eric Ciotti to continue, in another form, the hostility towards his rival.

Moreover, another passage in the letter leaves no doubt that the President of the Republicans 06 considers the “yellow vests” just as much as the “red scarves” (if they existed): [in the case of the renouncement of the metropolitan tax] “I would personally see it as a positive sign breaking with the support you have given President Macron since 2017,” he asserts.

No less than that!

Christian Estrosiโ€”who obviously has no intention of disqualifying himself in everyone’s eyes by submitting to the wishes of his vehement opponent, dodged the challenge: on the administrative side, he left the response to the President of the Finance Commission, Philippe Pradal, who detailed the fiscal policy of the Metropolis and compared it to that of the Department and other intercommunalities.

On the political side, he maintained diplomatic language: “I, for one, continue to believe that dialogue is always preferable to lies and adversity.”

The war is not over.
