Analysis by Xavier Garcia (spokesperson for the PS 06 and co-organizer of the citizens and socialist primary):
“This time we have crossed the threshold of 30,000 voters (30,874), 1,102 more than last week, a participation rate that, in light of national averages, is far from reflecting the departmental stronghold of the UMP.
We were unsure if we could replicate the same mobilization as in the first round, especially with 20% of Arnaud Montebourg’s voters, whose turnout was uncertain. This result thus constitutes great satisfaction. It rewards the dense territorial coverage (133 polling stations) that we implemented thanks to the mobilization of 800 members and supporters.
It appears that, with few exceptions likely due to the influence of personalities, the popular polling stations, those in the hilly areas, and especially the medium-sized towns (St Laurent, Cagnes, Valbonne, Vence…) voted for Hollande more decisively than the average.
Martine Aubry fared better in city centers and certain small towns.
The declines in participation often affected polling stations in residential or city center neighborhoods, particularly in Nice, stations that were often relatively favorable to Martine Aubry in the first round.
Since François Hollande did not exceed his national score in the first round, it is likely that to reach 58% departmentally, he benefited both from a very good transfer of votes among Arnaud Montebourg’s supporters and from the renewal of the electoral body (between 15 and 20% new voters according to our estimates, which means that over the two rounds, nearly 35,000 voters came to vote).”
