This Tuesday at 11 AM at the Garibaldi Association Space, Dominique Estrosi-Sassone, Deputy in charge of City Policy and Social Cohesion, Administrator of the CCAS, will present diplomas to the 23 Civic Service volunteers.
Since October 1, 2012, 23 Civic Service volunteers at Unis-Cité have been engaged in Nice in various projects of national interest:
7 volunteers “the Mediaterre” have individually and collectively assisted volunteer families from social housing neighborhoods, Les Moulins, l’Ariane and Nice East, in adopting eco-friendly habits to protect the environment and reduce their energy bills. They also assist vulnerable or fragile individuals in some of their daily tasks related to accessing rights and public services;
4 volunteers “the Vitaminés” encourage children and their parents to adopt healthier eating habits and engage in regular physical activity, mainly during snack time;
4 volunteers “A Visit, A Smile”, in pairs, visit isolated elderly people to combat isolation and maintain their autonomy through activities, outings, and workshops;
8 volunteers work at the CCAS structures in Nice with the elderly, people in precarious situations and at the social center, the Village.
With their Civic Service missions coming to an end very soon, these volunteers are receiving their certificates of completion today at the Garibaldi Association Space.
Unis-Cité is one of the pioneering associations of Civic Service in France. Present in about thirty cities in France, it has already mobilized over 6000 volunteers and engaged 1400 during the 2010-2011 year. The Civic Service model proposed by Unis-Cité allows young people from all social and cultural backgrounds and all educational levels to work together on various missions responding to the social and environmental needs of their territory. Unis-Cité recruits its volunteers based on their motivation and ability to engage as a team and over time. A Civic Service volunteer receives a monthly allowance of 540€, including 100 € in kind (food, transportation, etc.). They also benefit from social protection and their engagement periods are counted towards retirement.
