The young volunteers of the association Unis Citรฉs received their diploma yesterday at the Mediterranean University Center.
The ceremony, presided over by Dominique Estrosi-Sassone, Deputy Mayor of Nice and Senator of Alpes-Maritimes, rewarded the young volunteers who completed a civic service in 2015-2016 and those who are about to finish their mission soon.
Dominique Estrosi-Sassone expressed herself as “very happy to meet the young people at the CUM”. She praised the quality of civic service, which allows for “significant social mixing, whether it concerns social or cultural origins, the color of skin, or the life experiences of each individual”. Speaking to a well-filled auditorium, Dominique Estrosi-Sassone reminded that “six young people completed their civic service at Cรดte d’Azur Habitat”, the social landlord chaired by the Deputy Mayor of Nice.
“Civic service should not be denatured,” she then stated, adding that “it is a means to highlight the experience of young people”. For her, civic service must remain “a quality service that serves young people and serves the community”.
Frรฉdรฉric Roussel, departmental director of social cohesion, stated that “civic service is fundamental for the youth” and that it should continue to remain important for young people.
Several testimonies from young people on mission followed, such as that of Julia, a volunteer for 8 months, who had “a very good year” fighting against the isolation of the elderly. An enriching experience for these young people, tasked with promoting culture, communicating and informing those around them, and sometimes bridging the gap between sensitive neighborhoods and culture or sport.
The laureates then received their diplomas certifying their success, congratulated by Dominique Estrosi-Sassone and Frรฉdรฉric Roussel. They were then invited to join a group photo on the steps of the Mediterranean University Center to immortalize the moment.
