This weekend, rival gangs had arranged to meet at the Jean-Bouin ice rink for clashes. These events first took place on Friday evening before continuing the next day.

Friday night, the ice rink was particularly and unusually full, with nearly 800 people spread across the ice and the stands, including dozens of teenagers who came to confront each other. The next day, the same scenario, and the situation became tense and even dangerous.

On Saturday, November 16, the police had to intervene after the ice rink security pressed the alarm button. The site was then evacuated.

The results: six people were arrested, and four were taken into custody. Fortunately, the clashes did not result in any injuries or property damage.

The ice rink’s capacity has been reduced: starting Wednesday, November 17, the maximum allowed capacity will be 600 people, instead of 800.

The city files a complaint

Following these events, a meeting was held at the town hall yesterday, Monday, November 15, reports the daily newspaper Nice Matin.

The deputy mayor, Anthony Borrรฉ, told Nice Matin that security measures would be reinforced, and he described these acts as “unacceptable.”

In addition to announcing new measures, the city of Nice has filed a complaint.
