Classical Music: Mahler’s Symphony No. 6 at the Opera

Latest News

It was in 1903, one year after his marriage to Alma Schindler, that Gustav Mahler began writing his Sixth Symphony, now considered the most accomplished of his repertoire.

Completed at the end of 1904, it depicts a confrontation with death, both personal and universal: a furious struggle whose outcome can only be tragic.

By performing this work on the stage of the Nice Opera, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of its musical director, Gyรถrgy G. Rรกth, will bring to life a monumental musical fresco, both in its length and its rich orchestration, powered by its powerful momentum.
