For several years now, many women have been opening up to Claudine Bosio, a psychologist and psychotherapist from Nice. Her connection to women isn’t unfamiliar to her. She could talk about it for hours. There’s nothing like having lived an experience to be able to speak about it. To discuss this bond with women that she holds so dear, she has chosen to portray them through portraits. Her aim? Eventually to create a documentary film. “This is a more artistic endeavor than a commercial one,” she emphasizes. In these portraits, the women reveal insights about their femininity.

What is femininity?

For most of us, femininity belongs exclusively to women. One might define it as intuition, fragility, or even gentleness. Claudine Bosio goes further: “Femininity is transmitted. It is not something concrete or tangible. A woman must access it through a journey that is unique to her.” In seeking out her femininity, a woman embarks on a quest that could be defined as a journey through the desert. However, femininity is distinguished from femininity. When femininity is mentioned, one thinks of the enhancement of a woman through makeup or specific clothing. It carries a particular sensitivity and intuition. According to Claudine Bosio, “Femininity must be earned. The unconscious comes into play. It is not acquired.” Femininity can be defined as the culmination of the female gender.

Femininity in each of us

Every being, whether male or female, is made up of femininity. “It cannot be measured,” confides Claudine Bosio. Some women encounter more difficulty in experiencing their femininity. This is often referred to as a tomboy, a well-known expression. Claudine Bosio analyzes it as follows: “A woman may display masculinity based on her relationship with her father. Or she may have witnessed her mother being mistreated by her father.” Another possibility: at the time of conception, the parents unconsciously desired a boy. This sentiment can then affect the little girl. This analysis might also apply to a missed daughter who possesses excessive masculinity.

Femininity: a means of seduction

“A man must strive to discover femininity. He can find it provided that the woman allows herself to be penetrated,” announces Claudine Bosio. For a relationship to last, it must be based on being rather than appearing. “Seduction will remain for a time but it will not suffice to maintain a strong emotional relationship” if it is exclusively founded on superficial values.

For Claudine Bosio, femininity remains an essential part of human history. “It allows for openness to difference. If we are cut off from femininity, conflict is assured.”
