A few weeks before COP26 in Glasgow, a new study is raising the alarm. The research group Climate Central has illustrated the rise in sea levels in 180 locations around the world, including Nice, and the result is quite alarming.
If we limit global warming to 1.5°C, meaning if we drastically reduce CO2 emissions, the waters will still rise, at least up to the Cours Saleya. However, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has stated that it would be impossible to limit global warming to 1.5°C without taking radical measures.
In a more dramatic, but perhaps more likely scenario — that is, if we maintain our current CO2 emissions and the temperature rises by 3°C — the entire old Nice and a large part of the green corridor will find themselves underwater.
Even if this scenario will not occur for several hundred years, the threat is indeed real, and the findings are alarming.
