The announced decision of the President of the United States to withdraw from the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate remains a heavily negative fact, but it is not a surprise either.
We have understood, since his election and the selection of his staff of ministers and advisors, that the presence of such a character in the White House would bring nothing good to international politics.
It is evident that Donald Trump claims to implement his electoral program and deliver on his commitments to those who elected him.
The fact remains that consistency in a flawed promise does not make it a just promise!
Then, there is also a question that Donald Trump should not have ignored: his country is the largest contributor to pollution and therefore has a direct responsibility in global warming, the consequences of which are not limited to American territory (and… his voters) but extend to the entire world population!
Betraying this duty to favor a sectoral industrial model (coal) when scientists have proven its negative effects on the environment clearly shows Donald Trump’s concept of morality, a president who is clearly “unfit” (inappropriate).
Unfortunately, Trump is and remains the President of the United States, the world’s largest economy and foremost military power with more than 700 bases worldwide: this speaks to the danger posed by the man who believes that being elected (thanks to a rather peculiar electoral mechanism) gives him the full power to do as he pleases.
The reactions of all actors in world politics have been unanimous in condemning this decision and, on the contrary, in calling for the reinforcement of the application of the Paris Agreement. Not to mention the scientists and experts who are outraged.
Christian Estrosi’s reaction was very anecdotal.
Always in search of originality, the mayor of Nice proclaimed in a speech at Ruba Capeu, to send a symbolic message from the Mediterranean shore to the other side of the Atlantic: “Donald Trump has made an irresponsible, demagogic, and blind choice.”
Wearing his Euromed president hat, he called on “colleagues from the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean not to cease their efforts in the fight against climate change and to intensify them sustainably.”
Puffing his chest, he proclaims that the Metropolis Nice Cรดte d’Azur is today “in a leading position in this fight, particularly in the necessary adaptation of urban life and development to the ecological transition.”
Expressing a frontal opposition, he issued his challenge: “We make another choice: enlightened, conscious, and just.”
We will never know if the audacious Christian’s words will reach Donald’s ears: in the realm of imagination, one could foresee from the latter: a growl (who is this guy?), a raised eyebrow (what does he want?), and then listen to his favorite expression: (you are) fired!!!
