Yesterday, the Minister of National Education, Nicole Belloubet, announced the closure of a private Muslim school in the Ariane district.
During an interview, the Minister of National Education, Nicole Belloubet, expressed her intention to close Avicenne College in the Ariane district of Nice. The reasons for this decision were announced by Christian Estrosi. The mayor of Nice denounces “an occult funding” received by the establishment. The college indeed put itself at odds with the law by receiving questionable financing from the former UOIF. The law against separatism not being respected and numerous unsuccessful attempts to demand financial transparency, the college finds itself in a delicate situation.
What is going to happen now?
The students of this school will indeed resume classes after the holidays, but the future of this school is uncertain. The institution comprises 20 teachers, including the principal and four educational assistants. It does not seem to be financially self-sufficient in view of the fees corresponding to a year of study. The authorities have been waiting for two years for the bank statements and the list of donors who support the school. The problem is purely financial and is in no way related to any issue of secularism or radicalization.
The prefectural closure order will be notified on March 13, with an execution date set for September 2024. This will give families time to re-enroll their children in other schools in the city.
