The Nice Municipal Social Welfare Center has collaborated in the development of the Territorial Security and Crime Prevention Strategy of the City of Nice, focusing on the theme “Preventing idleness among minors and young adults”.
This initiative highlighted the need for an innovative approach to reach young people who have lost touch with mainstream structures and education and to offer support for those who wish to invest in their city.
As a result, a youth project was initiated in the Ariane neighborhood, providing a local resource for crime prevention workers to engage identified young people.
Two projects were implemented with the participation of 11 young people:
The first project took place during the autumn 2016 holidays at the House of Justice and Law. The young people created a mural on the theme of the values of the French Republic, with guidance from the Galice association, which introduced them to graffiti techniques.
The second project took place at the Mont Alban Hostel, also known as “Mer’aventura,” during the year-end 2016 holidays. This is a leisure accommodation facility of the city of Nice where the young people renovated some rooms.
At the end of each project, the young participants enjoyed recreational outings: tree climbing, a day in the snow, and a visit to the national sports museum. Then, a mini-stay was organized at the end of April 2017 at “Mer’aventura,” during which the young people were introduced to various sports: mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, and scooter riding.
