The 28th edition of the World Championship will take place this Saturday in Coaraze, at the Piovano Garden starting at 10:30 AM. It is an opportunity to see the best teams compete for the ultimate title.

It is an event open to everyone, whether experienced players or not, but it is also an occasion to pass on the tradition of pilou to the younger generation and to introduce them to this traditional game. About forty teams are expected in Coaraze on the playing fields.

Pilou is a juggling game played with a shuttlecock.

This game is played in Nice and the hinterland of Nice, particularly in the village of Coaraze, considered the capital of this game, where the World Pilou Championship is held.

The origin of pilou is uncertain, but its cyclical popularity has brought it back into fashion regularly.

Participants must juggle, like a football player, with a shuttlecock called “pilou”. It is made from a 25-centime coin from the interwar period (Lindauer type) with a piece of fabric, paper, or plastic stuck in it. The rarity of holed coins has led to the use of unconventional shuttlecocks constructed around a normal coin and a plastic maintained around it.
