The Collective for Women’s Rights 06* is organizing a gathering on March 8th, International Women’s Rights Day, at 6 PM at Place Garibaldi in Nice, followed by a march to the Palace of Justice.
Despite the courage of women who dared to speak out against sexist and sexual violence, despite the tremendous #metoo movement, violence against women, too often tolerated and even downplayed at work and within the family, still exists despite the “politically correct” discourse that pretends to denounce it. Since the beginning of 2019 in France, more than 20 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners!
In addition to this male violence, women suffer inequalities that make them even more vulnerable, and these are exacerbated by cuts to public and social services. Women earn 26% less than men, have retirement pensions that are 40% lower, and occupy the majority of low-skilled, low-wage, part-time forced jobs and are more frequently unemployed.
Allowing inequalities and womenโs vulnerability to persist means bearing responsibility for the advancement of regressive ideas and the continuation of male domination.
