Collective gardens… What are they?

Latest News

Carrying out, on a daily basis, an ambitious policy for environmental protection and sustainable development, and within the framework of its Agenda 21, the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis organized, this Monday, a thematic workshop for discussions on collective gardens (family, shared, integration) and educational gardens.

The Metropolis gathers on its territory 28 collective gardens (19 family, 7 shared, 1 integration, and 1 solidarity) and 116 educational gardens.

The municipalities of the metropolitan area will be invited to share their experiences, thereby contributing to finding new ways to improve site management or to encourage other municipalities to create gardens.

The topics covered during this morning will include: creation and development, management (managed directly or by delegating to associations), and also the animation of collective and educational gardens.

This workshop will be followed by a visit to the family gardens in the municipality of Saint-Martin-du-Var.

Collective gardensโ€ฆ What are they?

Family and shared gardens are multifunctional spaces, combining economic, environmental, and social functions. Indeed, their objective is to develop local social ties by being accessible to the public. They contribute to the preservation of the biodiversity of cultivated plants, fruits, vegetables, and flowers, by promoting their knowledge, cultivation, and non-profit exchange among gardeners.

Family gardens are plots allocated to individuals who practice gardening for their own needs and those of their families. Shared gardens are collective spaces animated and managed jointly by a group of residents.
