Combating Substandard Housing: Dominique ESTROSI-SASSONE Appointed Rapporteur for a Bill in the Senate

Latest News

Dominique ESTROSI-SASSONE, Senator of Alpes-Maritimes, has been appointed as the rapporteur for the proposed law aimed at improving the fight against substandard or dangerous housing, submitted by Bruno GILLES, Senator of Bouches-du-Rhône.

Following the tragedy that occurred on rue d’Aubagne in Marseille on November 5th, where two buildings collapsed resulting in 8 deaths, the Republican group in the Senate decided to tackle this issue, knowing that on a national level, 450,000 substandard or unfit dwellings are reported.

The text, which will be reviewed by the economic affairs committee on February 20th and in a public session in early March, aims to strengthen the control and intervention capabilities of local authorities, expedite the responses provided to people experiencing unsanitary conditions, and increase penalties against slumlords based on the work already carried out in the ELAN law.
