Various events took place to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the appeal on June 18, 1940.

On Monday morning, within the premises of the Port Lympia school, the students participated in this tribute. The deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes, Eric Ciotti, was present to accompany the students in their performance. A reimagined version of the Marseillaise, performed by the students of Port Lympia school, echoed in the playground. The deputy then unveiled a mural of the Republic’s mottos, created by the students.

The following events took place later in the morning at the Place du Gรฉnรฉral de Gaulle, in the Liberation district. The firefighters’ brass band set the tone for the commemoration ceremony.

State representatives, as well as the mayor of Nice, deputy Eric Ciotti, and other officials, were present, along with war veterans and even elementary school students. For the officials, the children help keep this historical moment alive.

The appeal of General de Gaulle on June 18, 1940, still resonates today, in the face of threats that persist on French territory and worldwide.
