On Thursday, July 5, 2012, at 7 p.m., following the laying of wreaths at the Alsace Lorraine Garden memorial at 10:30 a.m. and a service at Saint Pierre d’Arène Church at 11 a.m., a commemoration will be held at the Great Synagogue on Deloye Street in Nice for the tragedy of July 5, 1962, in Oran. This ceremony will gather representatives of major religions and the presidents and members of associations of Repatriates and Harkis from all faiths.

This tribute to the Missing is part of the continuation of the Commemorative Days of the Repatriation of French people from Algeria, organized in Nice on June 30 and July 1.

On July 5, 1962, during a poorly controlled demonstration, several hundred Europeans were abducted, arrested, or killed. The commemoration of the Memory of these Missing is part of the continuation of the Symposium organized by the City of Nice in June 2009 and those that take place throughout the year 2012, with the next three focusing this fall on the Harkis, the Exodus, and the Conscripts.
