Announced by the city of Nice last May, Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, officially opened two experimental multifunction kiosks in Place Masséna and Garibaldi on July 28.
The new experimental devices of the municipal police were inaugurated at the Masséna and Garibaldi squares by the president of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis (MNCA), Christian Estrosi, on July 28. The agents of the municipal police and the tourism office staff the kiosks to receive complaints, reports of incivilities, or disturbances to public tranquility. “The best way to be in contact with the security service is to be connected,” insists the Horizon Mayor. A digital and human connection is provided by the law enforcement, according to the chief magistrate of Nice.
Multifunctionality of the kiosks
Initially, the kiosks were set up to host law enforcement. According to the municipality, residents and tourists along the coast can request information and administrative services without having to go to the Administrative Center of the Department. Complaints are recorded and processed within 24 hours. With its connection to the municipal police, the multifunction centers are equipped to respond to daily requests. Among these are document printing, tourist guidance, and information provision.
Every day, patrols on foot or mountain bikes are mobilized from the Promenade du Paillon to Félix Faure up to Jean Jaurès.
After the announcement, Jean-Pierre Scarfone, president of the Bonaparte street merchants, expressed his enthusiasm: “It’s great, the multifunction kiosks will allow information to be provided to the people of Nice and tourists,” he stated. Regarding security, the presence of police or public space surveillance agents (ASVP), according to the head of the merchants, reassures the residents and shopkeepers.
Project launched at UNOC and set until September 2025
In 11 days, during the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC), the municipality counted 6,000 people on the Quai des États-Unis, at Garibaldi, and at the port. If the project convinces the city, other strategic points will be put in place. Thiers station, Jean Médecin Avenue (at Nice Étoile, editor’s note), the port, and the Promenade des Anglais are locations being considered by the city hall.
