Astronomers were the first to notice the disappearance of stars. Every year, enthusiasts are forced to travel more and more kilometers to observe the celestial vault. Professionals, on the other hand, are compelled to develop alternative strategies to prevent the disappearance of the night from causing technical unemployment.
As early as the 1990s, astronomers sounded the alarm to protect the night, this heritage of humanity, “the first book of Humans.” Initially dismissed as quirky dreamers, astronomers were joined by other specialists who, night after night, demonstrate that the astronomical aspect is only the visible part of light pollution. Biodiversity, energy saving, climate change, misuse of public finances, human health, safety… these various aspects clearly show that light pollution is an unavoidable issue of sustainable development. It is therefore urgent to manage light effectively.
