Conference – Debate: “Crossing the Border, Perspectives on the Menton-Ventimiglia Post”

Latest News

This Thursday at 6:30 PM at the Maison des associations – Nice Garibaldi

This conference will take us not far from Nice, to the French-Italian border. This place is known for representing “the” border of French territory, similar to Calais.

Arab Spring in 2011, Jérôme Kerviel, informal camps of “undocumented immigrants”, crackdown on illegal immigration: in recent years, media and political figures have been frequently invited to visit these now-famous places. The aim is to reflect on this territory between past and present, rich with the density of population movements and having spawned multiple images as well as artistic initiatives.

Program:

6:30 PM – 7:30 PM: Conference: the Menton-Grimaldi-Vintimille border station and its evolution over time through an artistic and literary dimension.

7:30 PM – 8:00 PM: Discussion between Yvan Gastaut and the audience on this current topic (you can prepare your questions!)

Yvan Gastaut is a Doctor of History, specializing in contemporary times (19th-21st centuries). He is a senior lecturer at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, a member of the URMIS research unit (“Migrations and Society” Research Unit) UMR 205 University of Nice and Paris VIII.
