Conferences at the IUT of Communication of Sophia-Antipolis: Cultural and Sports Event Management and Specificities According to the Type of Organization

Latest News

For its third year of existence, the Professional Event Communication Degree at the IUT of Nice aims to best prepare its students for new forms of communication strategies. The program is organized around event management and project creation, regardless of the types of organizations (companies, local authorities, associations). These conferences call upon professionals from the event industry to share their experience and expertise in their field of expertise.

In order to prepare students for the realities of the working world, work groups are formed around a theme to successfully carry out a professional conference project:

– Festive and public events
– Cultural and sports events
– Private events
– Corporate events
– Trade shows and exhibitions

The choice was made to focus on the theme of cultural and sporting events, which are currently making headlines in our region with numerous events of regional, national, or even international resonance, organized each year. The particularity of this type of event lies in the legal form of their organization. Indeed, cultural and sporting events are most often the work of associations or local authorities that do not have the same means of action and must juggle many constraints due to their status. In order to highlight these specificities, the conference will take the form of a discussion, an exchange between the various speakers where everyone is given the floor. To this end, we have developed a presentation structure around four main axes related to the specificities of organizing an event. The conference will therefore revolve around questions related to legal, technical, financial, and communication constraints to identify similarities and differences depending on the organizations.

Representatives of three organizations, from diverse backgrounds, shared their experiences in creating event projects.

After only three years of existence, the event attracted over 11,700 runners, including 250 teams, on November 14, 2010, thus ranking second among French marathons (in terms of participants) after the Paris Marathon. The attractiveness of the region allows participants to combine sport and tourism and enables the Alpes-Maritimes Marathon to position itself in line with the New York Marathon. Thus, 23% of the runners are foreigners, with more than 50 nations represented. Over three days, the Marathon’s starting village (located at Place Massรฉna in Nice) welcomed over 30,000 visitors.

Participants, whether beginners or more experienced, were able to benefit from the teachings of 75 international teachers during level-specific courses offered throughout the weekend. They also admired the shows given each evening by their teachers and put into practice what they learned during the dance parties following the performances. Hospitality and passion were the watchwords of these three days of the festival. The fifth edition is already scheduled for October 21, 22, and 23, 2011. Reservations will open in January.
