Friday, June 10, 2011, at 4 PM at the Pierre Cochereau National Conservatory of Regional Influence, 127 Brancolar Avenue – Nice
Inauguration within the Pierre Cochereau National Conservatory of Regional Influence of the Dr. Guy Pougeon Discotheque, named after this discerning music lover who donated some twenty-five thousand records to the Conservatory of Nice, thus endowing it with the largest conservatory discotheque in France.
Integrated into the library of the Conservatory of Nice, this discotheque, a true goldmine of information for teachers, students, and researchers, will notably offer an on-site listening service allowing for an audition of a piece while having the score in front of you.
An extensive collection of musical documentation will thus be made available to students and professors.
There, one can find a multitude of works by both lesser-known composers such as the Passion According to Saint John by Cipriano de Rore or the Requiem by Ferdinand Schubert, as well as numerous recordings of operatic performances in major theaters around the world, such as Norma with Montserrat Caballé from the Turin Opera in 1974, along with recordings of historical performers from the early 20th century like Fritz Kreisler or Wanda Landowska.
Born in Nice, Dr. Guy Pougeon, a former physician for the OGC Nice and A.S. Monaco football clubs, was passionate about lyric art and art in general. He built his extraordinary discotheque during his numerous travels around the world. Some of his recordings, rare or unpublished in France, have become unobtainable in the current market.
