The heated (verbally) exchange between Christian Estrosi and Manuel Valls, following other comments of the same tone, reignites a controversy that, frankly, lacks substance and gives the impression of being artificially maintained.


estroisrom-2.jpg In fact, what is the point of talking about “controlling” the travelers? We’re not in a bullfight with a matador in action! And then, who really is the bull?

What is this seven-point guide, this charter to be distributed among the members of a hypothetical association of anti-traveler mayors? A “pronunciamento” with the taste of a bad Niรงoise salad just enough to create confusion?

Sure, Christian Estrosi likes to magnify his actions and pass for a true master of propaganda, but what advantage can he think of gaining from this stance?

Concerning the travelers, there is certainly a need for reflection, and the worst solution would be to bury one’s head in the sand. But, choosing to play the sheriff in a Wild West mode opposing the bad “Indians” certainly does not seem to be the most appropriate solution, quite the contrary.

Should we remind ourselves that, in a few days, the National Day on July 14th will symbolically celebrate the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (even though it was proclaimed on November 3, 1789)?

That the Nice-born jurist Renรฉ Cassin, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, is one of the authors of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

These are circumstances and examples to remember in order not to fall into the trivial!

Could we finally raise the level of the debate because frankly, all this for thatโ€ฆ
