Coronavirus: 15,792 new cases and 344 deaths in 24 hours

Since Saturday, 21 million French citizens in 16 departments, including those in รŽle-de-France and Hauts-de-France, have been reconfined. The Covid-19 epidemic indicators are significantly rising, having surged this Monday, according to figures from the Regional Health Agency.


According to figures from last Friday, the incidence rate is slightly above 537 per 100,000 inhabitants over the past seven days in the region, compared to 474 the previous day and over 400 a week ago.

The Covid Numbers

Worldwide, 120,268,427 confirmed cases have been recorded since December 2019, including 24,175,984 in the European Union countries. 2,659,802 deaths have been registered, including 577,310 in the EU.

Over the last 24 hours, health authorities have recorded 15,792 new Covid-19 cases and 344 deaths in France, according to the latest information provided by the French Public Health Agency. The total tally now stands at 4,298,395 confirmed cases and 92,648 deaths (including 67,243 in hospitals) since the beginning of the health crisis.

The test positivity rate has slightly increased compared to last year: 8% (versus 7.7%). As of March 21, 6,199,118 people have received at least one dose of vaccine across the national territory.

11,095 new hospitalizations and 2,259 admissions to intensive care have been recorded over the last seven days.

In the PACA Region

In the PACA region, 1,511 people are hospitalized (+51), 510 people are in intensive care (+9), and 6,430 people have died in hospitals since the crisis began (+78).

In the Alpes-Maritimes, 350 people are hospitalized (+10), 117 people are in intensive care (-14), and 1,253 people have died in hospitals since the pandemic started (+20).

At the regional level, viral circulation remains high and above the national average. The test positivity rate slightly decreases to 8.0%, and the incidence rate is stable at 334 per 100,000 inhabitants.

As of March 21, 512,735 people have received at least their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine in the PACA region. 204,592 have received both doses. In total, over 37% of the population aged 75 and over in the region have received one vaccine dose. More than 19% have received both doses. Notably, over 20,000 vaccine doses were administered this weekend thanks to the significant mobilization of many stakeholders and volunteers in the vaccination efforts against the pandemic.
