Today, France has surpassed the 50,000 mark of hospital deaths since the beginning of the crisis. New infections, new deaths… here is the Covid update for this Wednesday, January 20.


This Wednesday, health authorities recorded 26,784 new positive cases of Covid-19, bringing the total to 2,965,117 confirmed cases since the outbreak of the epidemic. The test positivity rate is 6.7%.

Hospitalizations

In total, 10,655 new hospitalizations have been recorded over the past seven days, including 1,601 patients in intensive care.

2,842 Covid-19 patients are in intensive care. They have also welcomed 292 new patients.

The death toll

With the 316 new Coronavirus victims in 24 hours in hospitals, the total death toll rises to 71,652 since the start of the pandemic, including 50,006 in hospitals.

The vaccination campaign

In 24 hours, 107,113 people have been vaccinated in France, bringing the total to 692,777. According to estimates, doses to vaccinate 2.5 million people in the country should be available around the end of February.

It should be noted that vaccination is now open to seniors (75+) and people with high-risk conditions.

PACA region

In the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte d’Azur (PACA) region, health authorities have recorded 1,365 people hospitalized (+40), 334 people in intensive care (-5), 1,125 patients in follow-up and rehabilitation care (SSR) (+40), and 4,131 people who died in hospitals (+34). The positivity rate remains at 7.6% (compared to 7.5% the day before).

In the Alpes-Maritimes, about twenty new conventional hospitalizations have been counted in 24 hours, bringing the total to 309 hospitalizations. 79 patients are in intensive care (-2) and 218 in SSR (-5). The positivity rate is 8.5%

It should be remembered that the department 06 is the second most affected in terms of deaths with 739 hospital deaths since the onset of the crisis (+6), behind Bouches-du-Rhรดne (1,997 deaths). A situation that increasingly worries the president of the Alpes-Maritimes department, Charles-Ange Ginรฉsy, who recently sent a letter to the Prime Minister. In it, he requests an acceleration of the next delivery of vaccine doses, the only solution to overcome the pandemic.
