After the Alpes-Maritimes, it’s Dunkirk’s turn to enter the threshold of partial confinement during the weekend. The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced it this Wednesday, citing the high incidence rate recorded in the urban area. Here is the Covid update…
900 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the last seven days. This is the incidence rate of the Dunkirk area. A level four times higher than the national average (205 cases). To face this critical situation, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced the implementation of a weekend confinement, similar to the Alpes-Maritimes, starting this Friday.
In France
In France, more than 30,000 new Covid-19 cases were recorded over the past 24 hours. This is the highest daily number of new cases since November 2020, during the second confinement. 278 new deaths have been reported by health authorities. Thus, the total toll rises to 3,661,410 confirmed cases and 85,347 deaths (including 60,746 in hospitals) since the beginning of the epidemic.
The test positivity rate remains stable at 6.5%. 9,450 new hospitalizations and 1,809 admissions to intensive care have been recorded over the last seven days.
As of February 23, 2,656,447 people have received at least one dose of vaccine in France.
In the PACA region and Alpes-Maritimes
In the PACA region, 1,599 people are hospitalized (-26), 469 people are in intensive care (+13), with 5,562 hospital deaths since the start of the crisis (+38).
In the Alpes-Maritimes, there are 360 conventional hospitalizations (-10), 115 in intensive care (+7), 232 patients in follow-up and rehabilitation care (-2), and 1,027 hospital deaths (+6).
As of February 24, 211,113 people in the entire region have received their first dose of vaccine. 97,941 have received both doses.
The Prime Minister, Jean Castex, is scheduled to give a press conference to provide an update on the health situation. After Dunkirk and the Alpes-Maritimes, new local confinements could be announced in certain affected areas such as the Ile-de-France and Grand-Est regions where the situation is also critical.
