4,240 new cases and 449 deaths have been recorded in France in the past 24 hours. The public health agency, Santรฉ Publique France, reported 26,924 hospitalizations and 3,041 patients in intensive care. In one day, 1,768 new admissions were registered.
To date, 1,092,958 people have been vaccinated in France, which is 66,087 more in 24 hours, according to the website Covid Tracker. Of these injections, 257,000 took place in long-term care facilities.
The Pasteur Institute throws in the towel
Today, the Pasteur Institute decided to halt its main vaccine project. A statement released during the day announced that this project, based on the measles vaccine virus designed to combat COVID-19, was deemed insufficiently effective according to interim results of chemical trials.
In the PACA region
In the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte-dโAzur (PACA) region, health authorities counted 1,588 people hospitalized (+176), 385 in intensive care (+36), and 4,315 deaths (+103).
13,289 residents in nursing homes (EHPADs) have contracted the coronavirus since the beginning of the crisis, and 1,394 deaths have been recorded in these facilities. The positivity rate in the region remains stable at 7.6%.
The situation in the Alpes-Maritimes
Among conventional hospitalizations, 359 have been counted in the Alpes-Maritimes department (+20). 84 people are in intensive care (+5), 215 patients are in follow-up and rehabilitation care (SSR), and 772 deaths have been recorded in hospitals since the start of the epidemic (+17).
The 06 region has 3,030 residents with COVID placed in nursing homes. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 270 have died.
In the Alpes-Maritimes, the vaccination campaign began on December 30, 2020, for nursing home residents and healthcare personnel. It continued with the opening of six initial vaccination centers from January 4, 2021, also responsible for vaccinating nursing home residents, healthcare workers, firefighters, and home care aides aged 50 and over.
Since January 18, 2021, a new phase has opened, with vaccination available to the public aged 75 and over or individuals with chronic conditions. As of Sunday, January 24th, a total of 21,878 people have been vaccinated.
